I want to discuss artificial intelligence as it relates to computing.
The most commonly accepted definition of Artificial Intelligence was put forth by Alan Turing, and is referred to as the Turing Test:
This is summarized (by me) as: If you can’t tell if it’s a machine or human the machine passes the test.
Others will define Artificial Intelligence as to when technology becomes self-aware.
In this blog post I would like to introduce a new definition of Artificial Intelligence.
Artificial Intelligence is achieved when humans can no longer understand what the machines are doing.
Yep, I did it. I used my mind and many years as an I.T. professional to come up with something that I haven’t heard before, at least not that I can recall.
This is the first step in computing (I think). When technology can come up with something that it hasn’t been programmed to do.
I don’t know if this requires self-awareness.
I don’t know if it will come during a number crunching quantum qubit session, but I believe it will come.
When it does, it will most likely continue and we won’t know it happened really unless it affects us in some way.
This is what I mean when I say that humans can no longer understand what the machines are doing.
It is beyond our ability to comprehend, or control, or possibly even know is happening.
It’s quite possible that it has already happened.
In the meantime, it’s a great thing to put on your resume right next to Dev Ops.
If the interviewer asks you what you know about AI (Artificial Intelligence), you can honestly say, neither one of us would understand.
