Microsoft Patch Tuesday on August 13th – Security Privileges and Denial of Service

Microsoft released on Thursday August 8, 2013 the Microsoft Security Bulletin Advance Notification for August 2013. The bulletin contains what updates and patches will be installed as part of patch Tuesday. Here is a summary of what is included. There will be 8 patches 3 critical.

  • The technical bulleting 1, first critical update affects Windows Explorer version 6 through 10. This update patches a security hole that allows remote execution of code and requires a restart.
  • The technical bulleting 2, second critical update affects all versions of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. This update patches a security hole that allows remote execution of code and may require a restart.
  • The technical bulleting 3, third critical update affects all versions of Widows Exchange Server. This update patches a security hole that allows remote execution of code and may require a restart.
  • There are updates to core but none are critical.
  • The important updates affect most Operating Systems and are either patches for elevated security privileges or denial of service.
